To Place Real Estate Signage on a Public Road

In most instances real estate signs can be placed and maintained on the private property or the private property boundary that is being advertised for sale.  In the circumstance where a sign cannot be placed on the private property, permission must be obtained prior to installation.

What are the costs?

On approval of your application, the following Permit Fees will apply:

Permit Fee for Real Estate Sign – Site Specific $25 per sign
Permit fee for Real Estate Sign – Unlimited Sites $165 per annum

What do you need to know?

  • A permit can be issued for a specific site or for unlimited sites. 
  • The Act provides that a road extends from property boundary to property boundary and includes the carriageway, footpaths and verges.
  • Pursuant to the Act, it is an offence to make an alteration to a public road without an Authorisation to do so from the Council.  This includes the erection of signs. Penalty $210.
  • You will need to supply the following information with your application
    • Certificate of Currency showing a minimum ten million dollars ($10,000,000) Public Liability Insurance. 
    • Insurance Schedule detailing all inclusions and any exclusions to the Policy.
      Note: Tax invoices are not considered sufficient evidence of a Public Liability Insurance Policy.
  • Applications will be considered within five (5) business days from the date that all required information has been lodged with the Council.

What happens next?

You will receive an email acknowledging receipt of your application.

The assessment process will occur within five business days and will include:

  • Confirmation of your details and required documentation supporting your application
  • Investigation of your proposed activity
  • Internal consultation with Council’s Parks and Gardens and Arboriculture Team to determine suitability (where applicable)
  • Pre and post inspection of the reserve (where applicable)

On approval, you will be provided with a permit confirming the approved activity and the conditions.  A Tax Invoice will also be provided for the permit fees and payment must be made within the terms outlined within the Tax Invoice.  Payment can be made electronically by following the link below, or refer to the Tax Invoice for other payment methods.
